Day 86 - Port Kelang, Malaysia

Sunday, April 6

I was up an hour early for my 9:45 meeting of my excursion, "A Glimpse of Kuala Lumpur".  Our tour guide was a retired employee of Malaysian Airlines who is now a university lecturer (he leads tours on weekends).  It took about an hour (not much traffic on Sunday) to drive from the port into Kuala Lumpur.  Our first stop was at the palace of the King.  The person who is King rotates among the hereditary rulers of the nine Malay states.  Each serves five years.

Next we went to the war memorial honoring those who fought the communist threat in the 50s.  We then went to Independence Square and had enough time to go into the Kuala Lumpur Museum.  Just outside was a large sign remembering MH370.  From there we went to take pictures of the twin Petronas towers which were once the tallest buildings in the world.

Had enough time to make it to early trivia where I had 15 out of 23 correct.  Then back to my stateroom to drop off my things and rest for a few minutes before time for sail-away on deck 9.  We left promptly and there was a little breeze on deck.

Then time for a much needed shower and change for dinner and then to 7:45 trivia.  There were some hard questions (How old was Buddy Holly when he died?  How old was Elvis when he died?  When did John Major become P.M.? and In what year was Shakespeare born?  (Some how 1564 popped into my head [don't know from where] and it was correct.)  I ended up with 12 out of 20 (winners had 19).

Seven for dinner tonight.  The couple who joined us last night disappeared and we now have a couple from Northamptonshire.

No show for me tonight.  All these port days in a row are tiring - especially in this heat!  The forecast for tomorrow is 97F/37C.
